Police probe 'tragic' death of officer at Portrush

A police officer has died at a PSNI station in Portrush.

Police said they were investigating the sudden death of a colleague yesterday morning.

A post-mortem examination is expected to take place.

It is understood it was a part-time officer.

Their name has not been released.

Chief Superintendent Paula Hilman appealed for privacy.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of our colleague. They have asked for privacy during this difficult time," she said.

A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said crews responded to an incident in the Crocknamack Road area of Portrush at approximately 8.30am yesterday.

One patient was taken from the scene and transported to Causeway hospital, but efforts to save their life were unsuccessful.

A crime is not suspected.

It is understood police are treating the matter as a tragic incident.
