Police probing pipe-bomb blast in Newry
A wooden fence was damaged when a suspected pipe-bomb exploded in Newry.
Detectives in the city are appealing for information after the device went off in the Chequer Court area in the early hours of Sunday morning.
It is believed that an explosion was heard in an alleyway in the area sometime between 12.30am and 1am.
"Slight damage was caused to a wooden fence. No one was injured in the incident," a PSNI spokesman said.
Condemning those responsible, Sinn Fein councillor Charlie Casey said: "The outcome of this attack could have been so much worse and I would urge those responsible to think rationally and stop this behaviour."
Police are asking anyone who noticed any suspicious behaviour in the area on Saturday to contact CID in Ardmore Police Station on 0845 600 8000.
