Police have confirmed that the man killed in a crash on Friday morning was 63-year-old Edward Montgomery.

Mr Montgomery was from the Articlave area and died following a two-vehicle collision on the Quilly Road in the area.

Two other people were taken to hospital following the accident, including Mr Montgomery's son who was travelling with him.

Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Local DUP councillor Adrian McQuillan said people had told him the crash happened at a dip in the road where surface water had gathered after rain during the night.

Councillor McQuillan said the fatal crash was a tragedy: "Articlave is a small, close-knit community, and everyone in the village will be shocked and saddened by what has happened."

North Antrim MLA Claire Sugden, who lives in Articlave, said her thoughts were with the victim's family.

She described the incident as "tragic".

Police continue to appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have captured dash-cam footage, to contact officers in Coleraine on 101, quoting reference number 597 of 09/08/19.
