Police rescue pup being dragged along Northern Ireland street

By Donna Deeney

A beautiful pup is back with his owner after police came to its aid while on patrol.

PSNI officers in Londonderry were stopped by a number of people who witnessed a man dragging the pup along Ferryquay Street.

The officers approached the suspect, who was arrested after he became confrontational.

One witness told the Belfast Telegraph she was horrified at the state the pup was in.

She said: "The police officers were fantastic, they went over to the man and tried to take the pup from him but the wee thing couldn't even lift its head off the pavement."

A PSNI spokesman said: "A police officer took the pup home and cared for him overnight but thankfully we got him back to the rightful owner who is over the moon to have his pup back."

The suspect was given a penalty notice for disorder.
