Police seize 115 cannabis plants after factory discovered in Newry

Police have uncovered a cannabis factory in Newry.

Officers were called to an address on the Damolly Road after suspicious activity was reported to the PSNI on Saturday.

Some 115 cannabis plants were discovered in what police describe as a "sophisticated set-up" at the rural property.

Officers seized plants estimated to be worth around £60,000.

An officer, posting on the PSNI's Newry Facebook page, said: "How long would it take the average person to make £60,000 after tax? Never mind every several months.

"This factory has taken time and effort to install and at a cost too.

"We took great pleasure in taking the illegal operation out of commission and putting the factory beyond use.

"We currently have several lines of enquiry at present however we want to hear any information regarding suspicious activity in the Damolly Road area.

"All information would be gladly received on 101 reference serial 931 of 9th March 2019."
