Police shut down Belfast cannabis factory

Police have shut down a cannabis factory in the Donegall Street area of Belfast.

The factory, which was discovered in a house on Thursday, contained cannabis plants with a potential street value of approximately £15,000.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested for possession of a Class B Drug with intent to supply and cultivating cannabis.

Inspector Robert Murdie, City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Drugs are clearly an issue of concern to local communities and officers have been working closely with residents in South Belfast to tackle the issue of drug supply and distribution."

He added: "Where properties are being used to grow cannabis plants, often the electricity supply has been tampered with and this presents a risk to adjacent properties.

"Landlords and property owners are encouraged to make regular checks of their property to ensure they are not being used by criminal elements."
