Police warn of bogus callers
Police in south Belfast are warning older and more vulnerable people within the community to be wary when answering the door to strangers.
In a recent incident a well dressed man called at the home of an elderly lady stating that he was conducting a poll regarding pensioners.
Luckily on this occasion the lady did not open the door.
The caller had visited the woman during the day and police are offering simple safety guidelines.
They are advising that before opening the door secure the chain or bar.
Ask for and double check the caller’s identity and if unsure do not let them in.
Police are also warning about bogus workmen offering to carry out home repairs and renovations.
“It’s much better to get any work carried out by a person you contact yourself or by someone recommended by friends or family,” said a police spokesperson.
