Police in Londonderry have appealed for people to come forward after a video was circulated on social media showing a "nasty" assault.

A PSNI spokesperson said that the assault in the Union Hall Place area of the city had not yet been reported to them.

Police urged for anyone who sees such an incident taking place to call 999 immediately in order to get officers to the scene as soon as possible.

"If you saw a house on fire you wouldn’t message NIFRS, likewise if you see an assault don’t message us, ring 999," the spokesperson said.

"The victim has walked away from this one but remember that one punch can kill."

Alternatively for information about crime, the public should call the non-emergency number on 101.
