Veteran Labour politician Kate Hoey was among the mourners at the funeral of former Northern Ireland MP David Bleakley yesterday.

Mr Bleakley passed away peacefully in hospital last Sunday at the age of 92.

His funeral took place yesterday morning at S Clarke & Son in Bangor.

Among the mourners were Alliance MLA Stephen Farry and Ms Hoey, the long-serving Northern Ireland-born Labour MP for Vauxhall.

Mr Bleakley joined the NI Labour Party and won the Northern Ireland Parliament seat formerly known as Victoria in Belfast in 1958.

At Stormont he chaired the Public Accounts Committee. In 1971 he was appointed Minister for Community Relations in the Cabinet by Brian Faulkner.
