Poll: Arlene Foster to invite Donald Trump to Northern Ireland for golf's Open - what do you think?
Arlene Foster is to invite Donald Trump to Northern Ireland for The Open at Royal Portrush.
The US President is an avid golfing fan and has often been seen out on the course during his tenure as America's commander in chief. The DUP leader is in Washington for St Patrick's Day. She said it is important the unionist voice is heard in Northern Ireland.
She told the BBC she would be inviting the president to north coast for the return of the major golfing championship in July.
"It is the biggest event ever in Northern Ireland. It is a huge event that will put Northern Ireland on the map," said the MLA.
The president is a controversial figure. In the past Northern Ireland politicians have said they would never met Mr Trump because of the many scandals that have surrounded him.
Mrs Foster continued: "Would we like the president of the United States to come to Northern Ireland? Very much so."
"He is democratically elected like the rest of us."
