Pooches in the frame to win a dog-friendly holiday

The search is on for the dog most deserving of a dream holiday.

Marking National Dog Day, people across Northern Ireland will get the chance to nominate their pet pooch or family fido to win a dog-friendly break in Scotland.

Canine contestants, whether exhausted working dog, assistance dog, mutt or mongrel will compete for some poochy pampering on a special, dog-tailored three-night break in a prize which includes return travel for a car onboard Stena Line in the VisitScotland-sponsored offer.

Today's celebration of man's best friend comes as online statistics reveal that when it comes to holidays, people are interested in accommodation that's more dog-friendly than romantic. With Northern Ireland boasting the highest rate of dog ownership in the UK, trends have shown that dogs are more often included on the annual break or weekends away.

Nominate your pooch by uploading a doggy selfie to by Wednesday, September 9.

Five finalists will then be selected and put forward for the public to vote to select Northern Ireland's most deserving dog, with the overall winner being unveiled on Thursday, October 8.
