Portglenone crash: Woman killed in collision, man dies from 'heart attack' after arriving at scene

A woman has died following a two vehicle-crash, while tragically a man who knew the woman is understood to have suffered a heart attack after he arrived on the scene and later died in hospital.

The 58-year-old woman died following the collision on the Townhill Road in Portglenone on Friday December 4.

She passed away at the scene.

Officers arrested a 21-year-old man a short time later on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been released on bail pending further police enquiries.

Police said a man who arrived in the Townhill Road area immediately after the collision took ill. He was treated by paramedics at the scene but died in hospital.

A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said the man was treated at the scene for a "cardiac incident".

Superintendent Ryan Henderson said: "The man is not a relative of the deceased woman but they were known to one another. The death of the man is not being investigated by police at present.

“I would ask that anyone who was in the area at around 6:30am this morning and witnessed the collision please contact police on the non-emergency number 101.”
