Post office to close

By Michael McCready

The Post Office has confirmed that it is closing a north Belfast branch — but insists it is only temporary.

Due to the resignation of the subpostmaster at the Jennymount branch, it will close from Wednesday.

A Post Office spokesman said it was working hard to find a solution that will provide a Post Office presence in the community and resume services as quickly as possible.

North Belfast MP Nigel Dodds has expressed regret at the closure but has welcomed the news that it will re-open within the area in the near future.

“This will be a great loss to the local community, but there is every indication that it will only be a temporary loss,” he said.

“Post Office Limited has received a number of expressions of interest in taking on a Post Office branch within the area.

“I have urged that these be pursued with minimum delay and welcome Post Office expectations that a branch will re-open within the vicinity in the coming months.”
