Members of a Bangor unit providing for severely disabled children were celebrating on Friday after winning big in the UTV/Big Lottery Fund People's Millions vote.
The Praxis care group, based in Beechfield in Conlig, won the vote after the public flocked to show their support.
The group had requested £26,499 to fund their "Play Haven" project which will see the creation of a play area and garden where children with disabilities and their families can play and relax. The memorial garden will be used for moments of quiet reflection, while the play area will feature equipment specifically designed for sensory stimulation.
The project was featured on UTV last Wednesday, allowing its work to be highlighted and seen by viewers.
North Down DUP MLA Gordon Dunne congratulated all those involved in the win, saying: "I am delighted that the Beechfield unit in Conlig has won funding from the UTV People's Millions competition. This unit does an excellent job in helping so many special young people on a daily basis. It also provides a vital lifeline of support for many parents and carers of these special young people.
This funding will allow Praxis to redesign the garden of its Beechfield Residential Unit. This is very well deserved and we must thank and pay tribute to the great work of everyone involved in this project including the centre manager Linda Lyons.
"I certainly wish them well for the future and look forward to seeing this exciting development unfold."
