Priest performs magical carol concert at care centre

By Brendan McDaid

Residents from a Londonderry care home had their own Holy Night this week when one of the singing Priests arrived for a surprise Christmas carol concert.

Fr Martin O’Hagan, of The Priests fame, popped into the Longfield Care Centre in Eglinton to give his performance.

While there he met and chatted with dozens of residents, along with staff, relatives and friends of those in the home.

It was the second visit of an Irish singing star, and was again arranged by activities co-ordinator Ruth Heaney.

Daniel O'Donnell visited |the home in July this year after being approached by Ms Heaney.

“I believe where there's a will, there's a way,” she said.

The residents and all present had what was described by one as a “magical afternoon”, thanking Fr Martin for taking the time to sing before he left to perform in the Millennium Forum that evening.

Centre manager Louise McCloskey said: “We have had a brilliant year of activities thanks to Ruth's hard work and determination.

“Who knows who we will have next, maybe Beyonce.”
