Primary school kids excel in cross country event at Billy Neill centre

Over 250 cross country runners from over 20 primary schools who qualified from local heats within the five council areas of Ards, Castlereagh, Down, Lisburn and North Down got on their marks to compete in the annual Regional South Eastern Cross Country Final.

The event was held on Thursday, April 22, at the Billy Neill Soccer Centre of Excellence in Castlereagh, with the top four individual runners and the top four teams in each of the Boys and Girls events qualifying to compete and represent the South Eastern region in the NI Primary Schools Cross Country Finals, at Necarne Bawnacre Leisure Centre, Irvinestown, Fermanagh this Tuesday, May 11.

The top four primary schools qualifying for the girls’ team event are Loughview Integrated PS (Castlereagh), Harmony Hill PS (Lisburn), Downshire PS (Lisburn) and Wallace PS (Lisburn). The top four primary schools qualifying for the boys’ team event are Kilmaine PS (North Down) Dundonald PS (Castlereagh), Ballyholme PS (North Down) and Cairnshill PS (Castlereagh).

The girl’s individual winners who qualify for the NI Final are Nicole West (1st place — Downshire PS, Lisburn), Amy Montgomery (2nd place — Ballymacash PS, Lisburn), Tara Locke (3rd Place — Loughview IPS, Castlereagh) and Emma McMaster (4th place — Ballynahinch PS, Down).

The boy’s individual winners going through to the Regional Final are Charles McNutt (1st place — Ballyholme PS, North Down), Keegan Rice (2nd place — St. Mary’s PS Killyleagh, Down), David Stewart (3rd place — Downshire PS, Lisburn) and Chris Pierpoint (4th Place — Kilmaine PS, North Down)
