Prisoner Derek Brockwell and his parents held over jail escape
A prisoner and his parents have been arrested on suspicion of helping a violent robber flee from the Republic to Belfast.
Derek Brockwell escaped from Tallaght Hospital last month where he had been for a scheduled hospital appointment from Portlaoise Prison. He escaped from custody by stabbing two prison officers before being picked up by an accomplice on a motorbike which then sped from the scene.
The next night he was Tasered by police outside a Belfast city centre bar, having carried out two armed robberies on shops on the Dublin Road.
Brockwell remains in custody in Northern Ireland, having stabbed himself in the stomach as police officers approached to arrest him in Bedford Street on February 18.
Yesterday morning, detectives from Tallaght arrested a prison inmate and his parents on suspicion of helping Brockwell escape and move across the border.
All three last night remained in custody.
