A Stormont department has paid private firm Capita more than £75m to carry out Personal Independence Payment (PIP) health assessments since 2016, it has emerged.

Concerns have repeatedly been raised about Capita’s involvement in the scheme, which replaced the old Disability Living Allowance (DLA), with a recent Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman’s report finding the repeated nature of failures with PIP payments constituted “systemic maladministration”.
