Probe after family given wrong body by Northern Ireland hospital
A grieving family is consulting lawyers after a hospital mortuary gave the wrong body out to an undertaker.
The Western Health Trust has launched an investigation into the mix-up at the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen - and offered its "sincere apologies" to the family.
It is understood the wrong body was passed to an undertaker in recent months and taken to a different location before the mistake was discovered.
According to the Impartial Reporter newspaper, the trust has taken action against a member of staff, and the family of the deceased, who do not wish to be named, have spoken to lawyers.
A Western Health Trust spokesperson confirmed it is investigating the incident.
"We are unable to comment further until the investigation has been completed in the interest of ensuring that all of the circumstances have been thoroughly examined. The Trust has contacted the family concerned to express its sincere apologies," they said.
