Probe after OAP robbed in own home

A pensioner was robbed in his home by youths who held him down in a chair while they searched his pockets for valuables, police have said.

The two thieves entered the 79-year-old man's house in the Clanrye Park area of Newry, Co Down, after 10 pm on Friday night while their victim was sitting in his living room.

They held him down while they rifled his pockets for money.

The pair escaped with a wallet containing a small amount of cash, plus two bank cards and a savings book.

Police said the elderly man was not injured, but was left shaken by his ordeal.

Officers have appealed for information on the robbery.
