‘Prolific offender’ shouts abuse at officer in court

A Londonderry man charged with a litany of offences yesterday verbally abused a police officer from the dock.

Conor Christopher Lishman (23), from Rosemount Avenue, who has 44 previous criminal convictions, was described by a PSNI officer as “a prolific offender”. Lishman, who was arrested in Rosemount on Sunday night, appeared before Derry Magistrates Court yesterday charged with committing 28 offences since May last year.

They include road traffic offences, assaulting his ex-girlfriend and her mother, fraud, burglary and theft. Refusing bail, Judge Barney McElholm said that based on the papers before the court, the defendant looked like he had “committed an awful spree of offending”. The defendant was remanded in custody to appear in court again on September 9.
