Promotion to BBC1 for hit police drama Line of Duty

By David Young

Smash hit BBC police drama Line of Duty is going mainstream.

Starring Enniskillen actor Adrian Dunbar as Superintendent Ted Hastings, the award-winning, filmed-in-Belfast series has achieved the highest audience figures ever seen on BBC2.

The third series of the police corruption thriller, written by Jed Mercurio, ended last week.

It's now been revealed that series four and five - currently in production - will air on BBC1, the corporation's flagship channel.

The BBC's controller of TV channels and iPlayer, Charlotte Moore, said: "Line of Duty is original, bold, gripping drama that gets the nation talking and the time is right to bring the series to an even broader audience on BBC1."
