Provo chief held over Jean killing

McConville family's surprise at arrest 42 years after murder

By Chris Kilpatrick

The family of a mother-of-10, kidnapped, killed and secretly buried by the IRA during the Troubles, said they were not getting their hopes up after the arrest of an alleged former leader in the organisation over her murder.

Ivor Bell (77) is being held in connection with the killing of Jean McConville who was abducted and secretly buried in 1972.

Bell (right) was reportedly a leading figure within the IRA from 1970 until the mid-1980s and part of a republican delegation that flew to London for secret talks with the Government the same year Mrs McConville was killed.
