PSNI appeal after attempted hijack in east Belfast

A man armed with a hammer tried to smash his way into a taxi, while an accomplice is believed to have been armed with a handgun.

The attempted hijacking involving three masked men took place in Vicarage Street, east Belfast shortly after 2am yesterday.

The driver managed to get away from the scene unharmed but was badly shaken.

The CID at Musgrave Police Station is appealing for information.
