PSNI appeal after woman is assaulted in west Belfast

A woman who was given a lift by a man in west Belfast was driven off and assaulted, police have revealed.

The 49-year-old woman was picked up by a man in a car while she was on the Falls Road, close to the Royal Victoria Hospital in the late afternoon or early evening of Sunday, September 8.

The woman was driven to a layby in the Wheelers Road area, close to the junction with Tornagrough Road, where it is believed the assault occurred.

The woman was driven back to the Falls Road, close to its junction with St James Park, where she was dumped out of the car.

The car is believed to have been a silver, four-door vehicle.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Anyone with any information is asked to contact Serious Crime Branch in Ladas Drive on 0845 600 8000 or they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
