Police have appealed for information

A woman escaped a "frightening" attempted hijacking in County Down on Friday night.

Police received a report at 10.45pm stating that a woman had been driving along the Listooder Road in Saintfield around ten minutes earlier when she was approached by a man standing in the middle of the road.

The man is reported to have approached the vehicle and ordered the woman to get out, however she was able to driving away and was uninjured.

PSNI Sergeant Nigel Donnelly said it was a frightening experience for her.

"Our enquiries in this incident are continuing, and I would appeal to anyone travelling on Listooder Road between 10:30pm and 10:40pm, and who saw any suspicious activity or anything out of the ordinary, to call police," he added.

"I would also appeal to anyone with information about this incident to get in touch with us by calling 101 and quote reference number 2050 of 05/02/21.
