PSNI 'has footage of assault by doctor'

By George Jackson

Police have CCTV footage of an incident during which a hospital anaesthetist allegedly assaulted two police officers, a court has heard.

The case of Dr Eireann Kerr was raised at the Magistrates Court in Londonderry yesterday, where a solicitor said that investigators have footage of an incident at Strand Road PSNI station.

Dr Kerr (30), who is from Marlborough Park South in Belfast but is a doctor at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry, is charged with assaulting the female and male officers following a staff Christmas night out on December 2013.

Defence solicitor Derwin Harvey told Deputy District Judge Liam McStay that CCTV footage of the incident had not yet been served on the defence and he was therefore not in a position to agree any evidence until he had viewed the footage.

Mr Harvey said a statement also had to be taken from a civilian witness and added he had written to the Public Prosecution Service with a view to obtaining statements from two more police officers. The case was adjourned until March 7.
