PSNI hunt for thief who fled elderly woman's home

Police are appealing for information after a thief targeted the home of a woman in her eighties.

He fled the property after he saw the woman when he entered her bedroom at around 3.50am on Sunday morning.

It happened in the Glencaw Park area.

A purse containing cash was taken from a downstairs room.

Police said an empty purse was later found in the nearby Cashel Hill Park.

Detective Constable Emma Marshall is appealing for witnesses: “I would like to hear from anyone with information about this crime or who may have witnessed any unusual activity, either in Glencaw Park, Cashel Hill Park or any of the surrounding areas of Gallaigh.

We are also investigating a report that a man had been banging at the front door of a nearby property just prior to the time of the burglary. Anyone with information is asked to contact Strand Road Reactive and Organised Crime on 101.”
