PSNI officer's ankle broken in Carrickfergus assault another punched in face

Man arrested after report of fight in Co Antrim town

A police officer has suffered a broken ankle and another was punched in the face during an assault in Carrickfergus

It happened in the Victoria Road area on Tuesday at around 7.15pm.

The officer was one of three who responded to reports of a fight between two men in the area.

On arrival the officers approached the men - one of whom became aggressive and struck out punching one of the officers in the face and breaking the ankle of another.

Cuts and bruises was caused to the face and body of the third.

The 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of a range of offences including assault on police, criminal damage and grievous bodily harm.

He remains in custody.
