PSNI probe after family car is torched in driveway

By Staff Reporter

A car has been destroyed in an arson attack while it was parked in the driveway of a house in Londonderry.

Four members of a family were in the house at the time of the incident but were not injured.

It is believed that the car was set alight at around 12.30am in Temple Park yesterday.

The car was completely burnt out and the fire also caused damage to drainpipes, guttering and roof tiles of the home.

Two males were seen acting suspiciously in the area at the time.

One is described as being about 5ft 10ins tall, with dark hair and was wearing a two-toned puffa-style jacket with a fur hood. The hood and sleeves were dark grey in colour while the body of the coat was light grey.

Detective Sergeant Joan Rawson said: "I would ask anyone who knows anything about this incident, or anyone in the area who believes that their car may have been tampered with, to contact detectives at Strand Road police station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 82 of 04/12/16."
