PSNI seeks 'Good Samaritan' who aided assault victim

By Donna Deeny

Police in Londonderry are appealing for a Good Samaritan cabbie to come forward following a serious assault in the Waterside on December 30.

A 37-year-old man sustained life-changing injuries in the attack by three males at the junction of Chapel Road and Margaret Street in Derry some time between 1am and 1.30am.

He suffered injuries to his head, face and ribs.

Yesterday police revealed a passing taxi driver came to the man's aid and helped him home.

A PSNI spokesman said: "We are appealing to this taxi driver, and to anyone else with information or who may have witnessed the incident, to contact police at Strand Road Police Station on 101 quoting CCS 596 of 31/01/18."
