PSNI seize several large knives in Banbridge which 'could have been used to kill'

The PSNI has seized several large knives in the Limewood area of Banbridge.

The size of the knives has been illustrated with a 10p to demonstrate the scale.

The PSNI revealed their haul on Facebook and said they seized the weapons on Monday morning after numerous reports of a large scale disturbance in the Limewood area of Banbridge.

Five people were arrested along with the knives and are currently being questioned by police.

The PSNI has asked that anything with information about the incident contact an officer.

They warned: "These weapons could have killed today, easily. We're glad to get them off the street and are relying on you, our lovely public, to keep reporting suspicious or violent activity".

DUP MLA Carla Lockhart praised the PSNI for their proactive approach.

"I want to pay tribute to the police officers involved in this successful operation. Not only have dangerous weapons been taken off the street but five people were also arrested," she said.

"There can be no justifiable reason for anyone to carry these weapons on their person and it is very welcome for the residents of Limewood and the greater Banbridge area that they are now in the possession of the PSNI.

"I would ask anyone who has any information about this incident to contact the police via the 101 number."
