PSNI: Three arrests after attempted hijackings

Three men have been arrested following a series of attempted hijackings in Londonderry.

The men aged 18, 22 and 23 are being questioned by police in connection with a number of attempted hijackings, burglaries and other offences in the Rossnagaliagh area of Derry yesterday.

Two vehicles were stolen.

One collided with a police vehicle in the Carnhill area of the city.

A police spokesman said one man was described as having a firearm whilst attempting to hijack vehicles but there are no reports of any shots having been fired during the incidents.

Area Commander Chief Inspector Tony Callaghan is appealing for anyone who witnessed  any of the incidents or anyone with any information to contact CID in Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively information can be passed anonymously via the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
