Public asked to avoid area as firefighters tackle forest fire in Newcastle

Dozens of firefighters are dealing with with a large forest fire in Newcastle.

Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service said it received a large number of calls about the blaze in the Drinnahilly Mountain area close to Tollymore Forest park.

The operation has entered its second day and is expected to continue throughout the day.

The incident has affected approximately 8-10 acres of wildfire materials

A total of 8 pumping appliances and four specialist appliances with 60 firefighters and specialist wildfire officers have been engaged in firefighting operations.

Specialist Wildfire officers are also at the scene.
