A three-week-old puppy, left at the side of a road in a plastic bag, has died in Co Armagh.

The dog was found covered in its own urine after being discarded on Green Road in Bessbrook.

Three young boys who were walking along the road heard noises coming from the roadside bushes.

On closer inspection they found a small supermarket bag with the puppy inside.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, an uncle of one of the boys, Barry Rodgers, said his nephew was left "panicked" and hoped the puppy might survive. Offering a £500 reward to whoever can identify the culprit, the USPCA said: "This tiny puppy has perished through wanton neglect.

"Probably the weakling of a litter and of no value, it was discarded on a sealed bag."
