Railway to host Queen on big day

By Tony Jones

The Queen will mark the opening of the Scottish Borders Railway on the day she becomes Britain's longest-serving monarch.

On September 9, Her Majesty will pass the record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria, who reigned for 23,226 days, 16 hours and 23 minutes, according to Buckingham Palace.

Details of the event will be released nearer the time, but it is thought the Queen will travel on the new line, which will re-establish services from Edinburgh to the Borders for the first time in 40 years, with her husband.
