Rapist denies assaulting fellow inmate in Hydebank
A rapist currently serving eight years in jail has denied attacking a fellow prisoner at HMP Hydebank.
Appearing at Newtownards Magistrates Court via videolink from the Belfast prison yesterday, 21-year-old Ryan McGreechan was charged with common assault relating to an incident on July 9, 2015.
Defence solicitor Darren Duncan revealed that a similar charge against the accused had been dismissed last week, and in relation to McGreechan's latest charge, there was a "not guilty plea".
Mr Duncan said he would notify the prosecution as to what witnesses could be agreed, but that he had "firm instructions that the injured party cannot be agreed".
Remanding McGreechan back into custody, Deputy District Judge Sean O'Hare adjourned the case until May 5.
