Rathlin Island welcomes first social housing project in 18 years

Rathlin Island, off the coast of Ballycastle, is welcoming the construction of ten new social housing homes that will accommodate families and individuals on the housing list.

The creation of these new homes will provide affordable housing on the island in a bid to sustain the Rathlin community.

The project, which was announced by Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland, will double the amount of social houses on the island.

The properties which are being constructed by Apex Housing Association will also boast energy efficient materials that will make them 44% more energy efficient than the current Building Regulations standard.
