Ravenhill parking raised
Sir Reg Empey has called for better parking provisions to be put in place around Ravenhill Rugby Stadium.
Speaking after a meeting between residents and the bodies involved in the redevelopment of the stadium the east Belfast MLA commented: “The problem with parking around the stadium when Ulster are playing at home has been ongoing for many years now, and there hasn’t been a real commitment made to resolving it.
“The local residents have always been clear that they only want to be able to park outside their homes and I don’t think this is an unreasonable request.”
He said the home supporters had usually arrived before the police began closing off the streets before a game.
The matter was further complicated by the fact that half the area was under Belfast PSNI command, while the other was under Castlereagh. “There seems to be little interaction between the two policing districts as the policing operations differ from street to street,” Sir Reg added.
He has requested a meeting with ACC Alistair Finlay and residents in a hope that a long term solution can be agreed.
