Rebuilding of arson-hit Orange Order hall under way

By Adrian Rutherford

The foundation stone of a new Orange hall in the Republic has been laid - nearly three years after it was destroyed in an arson attack.

Newtowncunningham Orange hall in Co Donegal was targeted in September 2014.

Grand master Edward Stevenson joined lodge members and guests for the symbolic ceremony in the construction phase of the new building, which is expected to be completed by the spring of next year.

The lodge also unfurled a new banner, replacing one lost in the fire.

Deputy master Stewart McClean said it marked a "tremendous moment" in the history of the east Donegal lodge.
