Republic of Ireland International footballer James McClean has been charged with committing two driving offences in June of last year.

The first appearance summons case was mentioned yesterday at the Magistrate's Court in Londonderry.

The thirty-year-old defendant, who is currently with EFL championship side Stoke City, has been charged with driving an Audi Q7 Quatro without a licence and without insurance at Victoria Road in the Waterside area of the city last June 28.

The address of the defendant, who is originally from the Creggan area of the city, was given as Victoria Gate, Victoria Road.

The defendant was not in court for the case but his solicitor Paddy MacDermott said the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge of driving without insurance.

Mr MacDermott said there could be an issue in relation to the driving without a licence charge and the matter was adjourned until May 1 to have that matter resolved.
