Riot thug avoids jail for 'black b*******' tirade at police
A man who called police "child beating black b*******'' during a riot has avoided a jail sentence.
Graeme Harris (32) pleaded guilty at Belfast Crown Court to encouraging or assisting a riot, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and possession of a small amount of cannabis resin.
Prosecution counsel Philip Henry said police were on riot duty in the Rathfern district of Newtownabbey on January 26 at around 3.30pm and came under attack from a masked mob.
When police charged the mob they were confronted by an unmasked Harris, he said.
Harris, of Lacken Gardens, Rathfern, was goading and shouting abuse at police.
"He was intoxicated. He was aggressive and confrontational,'' Mr Henry told the court. "He was shouting that they were 'child beaters' and 'black b*******'.''
Judge Gordon Kerr suspended his 18-month jail term for two years.
