River search for missing youngster

A search for a missing teenager is resuming in the River Foyle following the discovery of his friend's body in the water.

Kieran McKeon, 18, and 21-year-old Alexandra O'Brien were last seen alive at a hotel in Londonderry in the early hours of Thursday.

It is understood the two friends had travelled to the city from a Dublin hospital. Both have been described as being vulnerable individuals.

A body retrieved from the Foyle on Thursday night is understood to be that of Ms O'Brien.

A number of personal belongings had previously been found on the Foyle bridge.

The ongoing operation by members of Foyle Search & Rescue to find Mr McKeon is tide dependant and crews were returning to the water at around 4.30pm.

Police said the search for the teenager was not just concentrated on the water.

He is described as being approximately 5ft 6in, of slim build, with long brown hair covering his face.

When last seen, he was wearing a dark hooded top and grey tracksuit bottoms.
