Road re-opens

A busy north Belfast road has re-opened after being closed for three years.

Corporation Street opened last week after a lengthy closure due to an extensive £130million sewage project which overran schedule because of delays in construction and other parts of the development.

The announcement was welcomed by North Belfast MP Nigel Dodds.

He said: “The re-opening re-instates this access route for traffic from north Belfast and the M2 into the city centre and other parts of Belfast, and I welcome that this will improve traffic flow.

“I know the re-opening will be particularly welcomed by businesses and services in the Corporation Street and Clarendon Dock area for which normal access is now restored.”

NI Water has said: “The final work required on Corporation Street was completed in January 2010 allowing for Corporation Street to be re-opened last week.”

The new sewage system was designed with a larger capacity to put an to end storm flooding which has been affecting parts of Belfast in recent years.
