Roof collapses at Sainsbury's petrol station in Craigavon

The roof of a petrol station in Craigavon has collapsed overnight.

The roof of the Sainsbury's filling station at the Rushmere shopping centre was twisted, causing extensive damage.

The station has remained closed today while staff assess the damage and investigate the cause of the incident.

A spokesperson said: “Our Petrol Filling Station was closed at the time of the incident and no one was hurt.  We’d like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of the site.”

Although the supermarket chain is still trying to establish the cause of the accident, bad weather caused problems across Northern Ireland overnight.

Storm Jake brought ice, snow and 70mph winds overnight and traffic was brought to a standstill in many areas during rush hour this morning.
