Rory McIlroy reveals he will be married before Players Championship

Rory McIlroy has revealed he will be a married man ahead of the Players Championship next month.

The World Number Two, having admitted he was not quite up to the mark at the Masters, said he was planning a number of changes over the coming weeks both to his golf game and in his personal life.

As well as his equipment, he said, he also intends to be married ahead of the May 9 tournament.

The 27-year-old popped the question to Erica Stoll in December 2015 and there have been reports wedding bells are to ring this summer.

Asked about getting married, the Holywood golfer said: " I am excited. It's a great time in my life and it would have been nice to walk down the aisle in the green jacket!

"It's a great time in our lives and it's all about that over the next couple of weeks and I'll come back at the Players refreshed and a married man and start a new chapter in my life."

There have been rumours the pair are planning to wed in Ireland with Ashford Castle in Mayo among reported possible venues.
