Same gang suspected in Derry crime rampage

By Donna Deeney

An early morning crime spree in Londonderry could have been the the work of a single gang, according to police.

Six different crimes, five of them vehicle related, were reported from the wider Shantallow area of the city from 1.30am to 7.50am on Wednesday morning.

Cars were broken into or had windows smashed in Rossnagalliagh and Woodbrook. Two boys in their mid-teens were spotted running off in the direction of Old Galliagh Road.

Then at 2.30am two men were seen climbing out of a back garden of a property in The Meadow, fleeing before police could catch them.

The fourth call to the PSNI came around 4am when it was reported that a motorcycle parked in Whitehouse Park had been set on fire.

At 7.30am the window of a car parked in Synge Court was smashed and the car ransacked, and 20 minutes later a Yamaha motorcycle was stolen from outside a house in the Stephens Court area.

Police are investigating a link between the incidents.
