Sammy Wilson anger over illegal car washes
East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson has called on the Department for Regional Development to take action on illegal car washes which are "popping up all over Northern Ireland".
The DUP man has written to DRD minister Danny Kennedy asking him to investigate the illegal operations which, he said, don't pay for water, taxes or rates.
"DRD have said they have identified 139 car washes that are operating illegally in Northern Ireland, however, I wouldn't be surprised if the actual number is much higher," he said.
"I am calling on the DRD minister to ensure he takes this issue seriously and takes action.
"Apart from the environmental impacts and the loss of rates, it is also extremely unfair to those who are operating their businesses legally."
