School honours popular pupil who died in crash

Pupils formed a guard of honour at the funeral of a popular teenager who was killed in a road accident in Co Down.

Odhran McGreevy (17), from Loughinisland Road, died in a two-car collision on the Newcastle Road near Seaforde on Friday night.

He was buried after Requiem Mass at St Macartan’s Church in Loughinisland.

Odhran was described by Mark Morgan, the principal of St Colman’s High School in Ballynahinch, as “an outstanding student who had a bright future ahead of him”.

He said a new prize — the Odhran McGreevy Cup — has been created for its prize day.

Police have urged anyone who saw the accident to contact them. Odhran was driving a blue Renault Megane which collided with a blue BMW shortly after 10pm last Friday. He recently passed his driving test.

Two people in the other car, a woman in her 40s and a man in his 30s, were taken to hospital with injuries.

The teenager is survived by his parents Pat and Colette, brothers Sean Og and Cathal and sisters Mairead and Maebh.
