Schools ahead for health
Three south Belfast schools feature in the Action Cancer and Centra annual Health Action Awards.
In the Belfast Education and Library Board region Inchmarlo Prep and Royal Belfast Academical Institute won silver awards and Aquinas Grammar School won a bronze award.
A total of 79 schools have secured awards, which recognise their health promotion activities for pupils.
The winners impressed Action Cancer experts with their proactive approach to the promotion of healthy eating, extra-curricular exercise, sun safety awareness and the dangers of smoking and alcohol. A tiered system of awards, with gold, silver and bronze awards for both primary and secondary schools, is used to recognise the winners.
Province-wide there are 14 gold award winners, 35 silver award winners and 30 bronze awards.
All 79 schools receive a Health Action trophy or certificate and a prize of £200, to be spent on school equipment, will be awarded to the highest scoring pre-school/primary school and secondary school/college in each of the five Education and Library Boards.
